The 2019 Tour of Pembrokeshire Prologue Ride was held at the event’s new HQ Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi in typically wet and windy weather recently.
Riders were given a choice of two routes of either 22 or 36 miles each laced with a few tough climbs with the longer route taking in Stop and Call Hill, Goodwick.
Tour of Pembrokeshire Organiser Peter Walker said: “The event provides a wonderful opportunity for us to get riders, supporters, suppliers and beneficiaries to spend a few hours together socialising and sharing ideas ahead of the main event in May.” “This year, we’re absolutely delighted to have been joined by staff and pupils on the ride, which adds a whole new dimension to the event.”
One of the riders, Chris Bloodworth from Pontypridd said: “It’s a long way for us to drive but the organisation and support is fantastic, we love the new venue and the lunch and guest speaker make it all worthwhile.”
After lunch at The Bishops, guests enjoyed an inspirational talk with Q and A by Dave Mitchinson. Dave was National Half-Marathon Champion before becoming an elite cyclist and his methods and determination made quite an impression on everyone present.
The Tour of Pembrokeshire won Pembrokeshire Tourism’s Best Event 2019 award and along with its partners; Crys Melyn Cycling, Falcon Boats, Preseli Venture and Roadstead cafes, provides cycling and adventure throughout the year.
This year’s Tour of Pembrokeshire will be held on Saturday 16th May in St Davids. For full details of the event, its supporters and charities or to enter or volunteer please visit: tourofpembrokeshire.co.uk. There are still a few free charity places available.
